Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
13 November 2017 – 12 February 2018
‘More masterpieces per foot than we might ever see in New York again’ is how this exhibition has been described by one critic. Including 133 autograph drawings, the show brings together works spanning the long career of Michelangelo, or ‘Il Divino’ (‘the divine one’) as he was known during his lifetime (1475–1564). Also exhibited are three sculptures, his earliest known painting (painted when he was just 12 or 13 years old), an architectural model for a chapel vault, as well as a selection of comparative works by his contemporaries. Worth a visit to New York City just for this, Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer is not just the show of the year but the experience of a life time.
