Your Christmas wish list must include Zadie Smith’s Swing Time and Ann Patchett’s Commonwealth. But for the perfect gift for someone else I’d recommend Treasure Palaces - in which writers like Ali Smith, Michael Morpurgo and Aminnatta Forna recall the museums that have made the biggest impact on them. Often nearing biblical in their reverence for a space this is an eclectic and fascinating collection taking you all over the world from the Frick in New York, to the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb to the increasingly vulnerable National Museum in Kabul.
