‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life’. Pablo Picasso
Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth. Perhaps no other modern artist was more adept at change and rejuvenation than Pablo Picasso who defied expectation, moving effortlessly between styles from Cubism to Classicism. Le Rêve was painted in just one day in January 1932 and depicts Picasso’s young lover and golden-haired muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter. ‘I am Picasso’, the artist told her when he first met her on the streets of Paris in 1927, ‘You and I are going to do great things together’. And great things they did: her presence in Picasso’s life completely reinvigorated him, inspiring him to paint some of the most breathtakingly romantic, erotic and sensuous pictures of the 20th Century.
