For interior inspiration take a trip to Charleston, home of artist’s Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, and their circle of lovers, the bohemian Bloomsbury set. Inspired by Classical Italian frescoes they set to work painting the walls, collecting furniture and filling it with textiles, ceramics and objets-trouves. It became a living work of art, an ever-evolving canvas for their eclectic, decorative style. Highlights include Vanessa Bell’s hand-painted bathtub and Duncan Grant’s studio, pictured.
The house and garden are open to visitors Wed–Sun and on bank holidays from April–30 October.
