Walking into John Derian’s store in the East Village is like stumbling upon a treasure trove of decorations and interior goodies. The cosy little boutique shop is filled with handmade knick-knacks and there is something for everyone. Derian makes his own decoupage glassware including papereweights, trays, dishes and lamps; the rest is the fruit of his frequent scouting trips to France and beyond. There are collages and woodblock prints by Hugo Guiness, vintage Pakistani quilts, Moroccan lanterns and leather poufs, and hand stitched French bedding. Once you’ve finished in there head over to the Bowery Hotel for a cocktail; if you’re lucky try and get a seat by the fire and keep your eyes peeled for an A-lister to walk by. Visit the store on 6 East 2nd Street New York 10003. Alternatively, head over to Pentreath & Hall who stock lots of his decoupage items. You can buy his book online - another great Christmas present.
